The standard we build to

This site is built to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That is a working floor rather than a badge: we have not had it independently audited, and saying so is more useful to you than a claim of compliance you cannot verify.

Colour and contrast

Every text and background pairing used on this site was measured rather than eyeballed. Body text measures 12.58:1 against the page. The muted grey used for secondary text measures 5.61:1 on the page ground and 5.14:1 on the tinted one; an earlier, lighter grey measured 3.67:1 and was replaced for that reason.

The two colours that carry meaning on this site — the carmine and cerulean of the two branches of a key — are never the only way a branch is identified. Each branch also carries its own numeral, 1a or 1b, and its own position. Nothing on this site requires you to distinguish red from blue to use it.

Keyboard

Everything interactive is reachable and operable from a keyboard in a sensible order. Focus is always visible: a two-pixel outline, offset, in one fixed colour that never changes meaning.

A skip link to the main content is the first thing in the tab order on every page. The navigation menu on small screens opens from a real button with aria-expanded, and Escape closes it and returns focus to the button. Wide tables that scroll sideways become focusable regions so they can be scrolled with arrow keys, and they are only made focusable when they actually overflow.

Screen readers and structure

Every page has one h1 and a heading order that does not skip levels. Landmarks are real: a banner, a primary navigation with a label, a main region, and a footer navigation with its own label.

Price tables are real tables with a caption, a header row and row headers, so they are read as a grid rather than as a run of numbers. Latin binomials are marked up as emphasis rather than styled italic. The drawings on this site are SVG with a title and a full text description, so the plate of injection grades is described in words rather than announced as an image.

Decorative elements — the fluid line between sections, the leader dots in a key, the punched hole on a button — are drawn with CSS and are hidden from assistive technology, so nothing reads out a row of dots.

Motion

There is one animation on this site: the two branch rules in the first couplet draw themselves once, over about six-tenths of a second, when the homepage loads. Everything else is a short fade as a section scrolls into view.

If your system asks for reduced motion, all of it is switched off and the page renders in its finished state. Nothing loops, nothing auto-plays, nothing moves while you are reading it, and nothing flashes.

Without JavaScript

The whole site works. Every page renders, the key is fully present in the document and every branch is an ordinary link, the questions open because they are native disclosure elements, the telephone number is a real link, and the footer carries the complete navigation. JavaScript adds the mobile menu, the fade, and the dimming of branches you did not take. Nothing depends on it.

Text and zoom

Everything is real text; there are no images of text anywhere on this site. Type is sized in relative units, so it follows your browser setting, and the layout holds at 200% zoom and at 400% in a single column without horizontal scrolling.

What we have not done

We have not had an independent audit. We have not tested with every combination of screen reader and browser. There is no accessibility overlay or widget on this site, deliberately — those tend to interfere with the assistive technology you already have configured rather than help it.
